Bio
Tarryl Gabel, a resident of Hyde Park, NY, was born and raised on a cattle ranch on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation, North Dakota. She began painting at an early age and has been greatly influenced by her grandfather, a self-taught western artist, and by her native culture.
Living in the Hudson Valley now for twenty years, she began plein-air painting four years ago, under the instruction of Keith Gunderson. Her influence has shifted towards the style of the Hudson River School of Painters and her recent work has been centered more on the beautiful landscapes of this region. She also paints wildlife, western and Native American-themed paintings, as well as still life paintings, when she cannot be outdoors. Her work is displayed in many private collections and corporate settings around the United States and abroad.

Tarryl was chosen to paint an ornament for the White House Christmas Tree. At that time, “Our Country’s National Parks” was the theme of the decorations and her ornament represented Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Home. She was invited to and attended a special
reception at the White House. The ornament will remain a part of the White House’s Permanent Collection. Tarryl was also a winner in the prestigious “Paint the Parks Top 100” National Competition and placed 2nd in the Top Mini-50 of the “Paint America” in 2007. She was a winner in the “Paint America Top 100” National competition 2008, and again placed 2nd in the Top Mini-50 Category.
Art Society of Old Greenwich 2008- 1st place oils, 2nd place oils and honorable mention in oils and photography.
