Bio:
Liza Hirst is a painter living in the Dordogne in Southwest France. She received her Master of Arts from the HDK Academy of Arts in Berlin, Germany in 1983. The School of Arts in Istanbul, Turquie, invited her as artist in residence in 1986, as did the Valparaiso Foundation in Spain in 2000. Born in Kingston, Canada in 1956, she grew up mainly in Germany and lived in Great Britain for a while before she moved to France in 1995. Since 2006 her project “Daily Paintings" has become her main pursuit. The daily paintings are painted in oil on canvas panel sized 5,9’ x 5,9’.

Artists Statement:
Looking at my work you will see that I like to try out different styles and subjects. This is partly due to my constant search for what "feels right" to me and partly to the circumstance that I am a daily painter. Daily painting is a bit like keeping a painted diary - every day I fairly spontaneously choose to paint something that has aroused my interest just that day. That varies from portraits of family members, friends and even people I see in magazines, to typical items and scenes found around my house and the area in the Dordogne in Southwest France where I live and work. Although the daily painting has become my main occupation for the time being, I do produce larger work on the side and enjoy the different challenges these two approaches offer.
