Bio: "Life is short, use color!"
I have always been enthralled with fine art but have been largely self-taught in it. Being an experimenter and, I am told by a teacher, an intuitive learner, I have benefited from studying books, visiting museums and galleries around the world, and by learning various painting techniques from several friends and relatives who are artists. I have studied with Clive Tyler, the pastelist, and have taken oil painting classes with Daniel Edmondson. My favorite media are glass paintings, soft pastels and oil paints (using the palette or painting knife, in addition to cooking utensils).
J.M.W. Turner, Georgia O'Keeffe, Paul Cezanne -- all have had an incredible influence on my perception of fine art and I admire each of them greatly. My style of art might be called "abstract realism", an oxymoron in its own right. I tend to relive my memories of the landscapes, flowers, food, and skies that I have witnessed and studied as I paint them. Some of my favorite contemporary artists are Larry Horowitz, Ovanes Berberian, Sibyl Stork, Daniel Edmondson, and Clive Tyler.
While traveling in Italy, I came upon an extraordinary artist who paints directly onto glass and who has, even though I have never met him in person, had an incredible influence on my life -- Massimo Cruciani. I have adapted his glass painting techniques using my own subject matter -- landscapes, florals, skies, other experimental notions. The transparency and the opaqueness of the specially formulated paints have a stained glass effect -- I thoroughly enjoy working on glass! In 2003 I was honored to win the Ninth Annual Northern Colorado Artists Association (NCAA) "Paint the Town" First Place Award and in late 2004 the Edgar Degas Pastel Award from the Colorado Coalition of Artists (CoCOA) National Fall Show. I annually participate in the Richard Schmid Auction for the Rist Canyon Volunteer Fire Department in Colorado.

Artist statement:
"Life is an onion and one peels it crying." -- French proverb
Escapism. Defying time. Serenity and solace. Reliving and recalling treasured moments. These are the reasons I paint and produce artwork. The acts of creativity are surely some of the most pleasant and yet difficult of all experiences. Color and form are my special friends. The challenge of perfecting the artwork is monumental and exhilarating. This effort has grown to be both friend and family, which are the two most important aspects of my life.
